24 hours in Cairo

What an experience but be prepared for the very very long bus journey ( more on the return due to all the check points) We left for Cairo about 1am on Monday morning and arrived about 9.30am ish. The bus had about 30 people on it but since ourselves and another couple were the only English speakers we got to leave the rest of the group and go off and see everything as a 4 in a private car with our tour guide which was very special! We started off at The museum of national antiquities, our tour guide Amhed was very knowledgeable and very passionate, a slight language difficulty but could understand what he was referring to. The museum was amazing you will not be disappointed especially getting to see Tutankhamen exhibit ( the only place pictures are not allowed) Next was on to the papyrus museum but had a quick stop to go on a tour of the river Nile ( we thought this was optional but appeared not to be and had to pay) might of been because we were in a group of 4 and not in a bigger group to stay behind. We weren’t too bothered with going on this Nile cruise wouldn’t waste your money but others may like it. It was very interesting learning about how they made the Egyptian papyrus paper we were amazed at how resilient it is and we couldn’t resist not buying one. They can personalise them for you!! Next was lunch, which was buffet style and wow the food was delicious and plenty of it! Then on to the best part the pyramids! WOW is all we can say, I think being in a small group we got to see a lot more but seriously a once in a lifetime experience! Had plenty of time for pictures and spending time around the pyramids, it did get a bit exhausting with all the constant people trying to sell you things ( watch out for people who own the camels and walking around they will offer to take a photo for you/ change your head scarf and then want money which can be quite confrontational with just how they are and having a huge camel next to you just be wary).. even though he did take the best photos! Ultimately we really enjoyed the trip, another tip take US Dollars/ Euro these are king out there! We read so many reviews to take Egyptian currency pretty useless if you ask me! We got a very good exchange rate but found out quickly that £/€/$ hold their value better and if you changed them to Egyptian you would only get 39 Egyptian to the pound but using the other currencies it is between 50-70 Egyptian.. so our advice take £/€/$ change a bit into Egyptian for smaller things buy keep the rest £/€/$

Fantastic time and would highly recommend to all to visit the pyramids, Nile and museum

The whole experience was amazing. All credit goes to our wonderful group alongside our amazing tour guide Ahmad . He ensured all the sites were covered and explained in a language and term that everyone understood. It’s important that you have the right members in your group and especially an experienced and understanding tour guide for your tour to be successful. Thank you so much Ahmad and the group we had for making this journey a memorable and success one. I would recommend anyone to request for Ahmad as a tour guide. Well English spoke, very passionate and puts the needs of his customers first.

Very satisfied

Beautiful view and perfect pictures but long travel. Not ideal for those who are with children under 10 but it’s really nice for those who like long drive, travel or travel exploring adventures.

Amazing experience, but too long of a journey

The day in Cairo was amazing. Our tour guide Ahmed was so wonderful. He was really knowledgeable about the history of Egypt. He took the best photos of our experience and he got great deals on camel riding. My only issue is with the coach journey itself. It was meant to be 24 hours max and ended up being 30 hours. I didn't get back until 3.15am on the way home which meant I misses another trip the next day. Also, water should be included

Great Trip! Shoutout to Mario

We had a great time in Cairo! The trip was long, but with enough snack and the right expectation Management ok. The Museum was amazing, Mario showed us the most important things to see in the short time we were there. He was really knowledgeable and happy to answer all of our questions. The highlight was definitely the time at the pyramids, so impressive. But be aware of the typical people want to just get your cash by offering to take a picture. It was a memorable day and totally worth the drive from Sharm el Sheikh.

Worth it

Chronological review: Booking process and the communication prior to the trip was excellent and clear. The pickup: This wasn't great. A dingy looking mini van arrived, which we weren't expecting. We thought we'll be picked up in the actual big bus, on the way to Cairo. This clarity was missing. And the mini van driver just didn't tell us anything. They picked us up, went on to a few other hotels, and kept cramming more people in the van. Another couple of visibly upset same as us, and asked if we were going to Cairo in this van. Even after the van was completely full, we stopped at another hotel where the guy was talking to another couple. We were driven to old city and finally found the big bus. The bus: The actual bus was decent, had decent seats and toilet (which we didn't use). A guide addressed the whole bus for about 10 mins in another language which we didn't understand at all. We asked the question, and another guy said he'll tell us in English, but he didn't and the tour started :) We have been to long bus journeys before, but this one isn't great. Be prepared to arrive at a petrol station with 5 more busses and over 200 people, everyone fighting for a toilet & a bite to eat at an overpriced café. That experience is not for the faint hearted. If you don't think you can handle this, you might be better off taking the flight based one-day trip to Cairo. We wanted to experience Egypt by road (plus this was cheap), so chose this instead. When we were nearer to the Cairo, we were told since there were only two english speaking couples in the bus, they would separate us and put 4 of us with an English guide - arrive Mario the guide. Mario took us to Egypt museum and gave an excellent tour, one of the best. We were transferred to a car, which was quite comfortable. We then went for a boat ride over Nyle. We paid extra for this. We went back & forth on river Nyle, viewing urban Cairo on both banks, and just took some photos on the boat. Then we went for lunch, which was a bit underwhelming for me. Visiting pyramids was great, paid extra for the camel ride, plus tips. Last stop of the tour was the perfume shop, which wasn't really required. But with tours like this, I understand it's another opportunity for the operator to earn some commission, we didn't buy anything though. That's where we parted ways with Mario and went back to the big bus. Drove back on the same route, took a break at the same petrol station and back. Drop off was okay for us, as we got seats in the mini bus. But 2-3 others didn't find seat and had to stand for about 20 mins. Overall I think it was worth the effort, and we got a taste of Egypt, Cairo and got to see museum and pyramids, which was great.
