Excellent day at Saqarra, Dahshur, and Memphis

The guys did an excellent job and were incredibly kind and accommodating the entire day, even adding stops and a meal based on things we mentioned but didn’t request. Couldn’t have been better and I highly recommend them for a very hassle-free experience to sites difficult to get to.

Avoid! Card and money stolen while on a tour. Do not use EMO tours.

I want to rate it 0/5 but it won't allow me. Horrendous experience with EMO tours. Money and cards stolen deep within from my suitcase which was in the boot of the car all day, left in a bag with driver for an extended period. But also the tour guide as I went in some places alone and they dropped me off and picked me up. One card was left but was used several times in Egypt for online shopping and to connect an account with paypal. So I presume they took a photo. Luckily my bank knew it was a suspicious transaction. The card that was taken was used within an hour of them dropping me off at the airport. And my bank said all the destinations were nearby the EMO office in Cairo. Not happy at all. Especially as the tour was $90 and I gave a good tip. I've already reported this to the local police, Egyptian tourism association, Ministry of tourism and want to warn other travellers across the online community. Do not use EMO tours. Contact me for more details.

Great day tour from Cairo

This was a great day tour to see the step, red and bent pyramids. We had a great tour guide, Souad, who was very informative and professional. Our driver was great too, picking us up and dropping us off at our hotel.

It was a great day. Guide Hamed is very active, caring, fun and has excellent knowledge of Egyptian history.

Great sites - poor English

Great short experience visiting several important pyramids not usually part of group tours. The destinations are incredible. Our tour guide's command of English was mediocre, which was a disappointment

Good

Much better in terms of crowds and taking good pictures compared to Giza. I liked how our guide asked us whether we wanted to visit the shops first rather than taking us straight there. Although, I was not impressed when the guide mentioned twice during the tour about having to tip at the end when I was already aware of this.

Great experience with a very knowledgeable guide. 5 stars all the way.

Mahmoud Anwar is a great guide that is very knowledgeable about Egyptian history. Our family really learned a lot. 5 Stars for everything.

Very disappointing unqualified guide

Unfortunately I didn't get a professional guide from Emo Tours. Maybe because I booked the tour last minute (they couldn't find a qualified guide 17 hours before departure time) or I was a solo traveler (only one person fee so not enough incentive to attract good guides). The "guide" seemed more like an average citizen rather than certified guide. 1) He provided very limited information at each site and sometimes factually wrong. For example, at Dahshur, he said the Red pyramid was built before the Bent pyramid and Bent pyramid wasn't completed because the King died. I googled and learnt that actually Bent pyramid was built first as the Egyptians were transitioning from Stepped pyramids to smooth pyramids, but they failed with Bent pyramid so they started again from scratch with Red pyramid. When confronted, he just said "there are many stories". 2) He didn't have too much to say and was just not interested himself so would leave me alone at each site after stating the basics, such as the year it was built, the name of the king and the material. I was left alone exploring the South tombs at Saqqarah for 30min because he thought it was "mostly the same" as the north side. I ended up following along other groups and learnt much more, the context, the history, architectural structures and the details of the paintings on the wall etc. 3) He was trying to take me to shops and earn commission from the beginning. Instead if focusing on the main job "explaining the tour", he was trying to upsell me. He also tried to offer me snacks which is nice gesture but I would appreciate much more knowledge and learning which is why I came here for! Overall, it was very disappointing because Emo Tours seemed to have good reviews and that's why I booked their tour in the first place but quality is definitely lost in the high season. Such a shame that Egypt has such rich culture and history but I didn't learn much from this guide.

A bad experience

Took this half day tour, after an earlier 6 day tour with another operator. The driver and guide was punctual, but within the first hour, I didn't feel safe with them. The guide was peppering me to visit various shops selling stuff , which I agreed only to visit a shop selling oils and perfumes. The guide's standard of English was poor, I could not understand him well. He said he became a guide for only 2 months, and was constantly reminding me to tip him and the driver separately. I feel unsafe with two of them, both were trying to rip me throughout the tour. So I try to minimize the time spent at each site, hoping to finish the tour as soon as possible. Upon tipping both the driver and guide, none uttered any word of thanks. All in all, a terrible experience.
