The Citadel of Cairo or Citadel of Saladin (Arabic: قلعة صلاح الدين Qalaʿat Salāḥ ad-Dīn) is a medieval Islamic-era fortification in Cairo, Egypt, built by Salah ad-Din (Saladin) and further developed by subsequent Egyptian rulers. It was the seat of government in Egypt and the residence of its rulers for nearly 700 years from the 13th to the 19th centuries. Its location on a promontory of the Mokattam hills near the center of Cairo commands a strategic position overlooking the city and dominating its skyline. At the time of its construction, it was among the most impressive and ambitious military fortification projects of its time. It is now a preserved historic site, including mosques and museums.
The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, known commonly as the Egyptian Museum or Museum of Cairo, in Cairo, Egypt, is home to an extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities. It has 120,000 items, with a representative amount on display, the remainder in storerooms. Built in 1901 by the Italian construction company Garozzo-Zaffarani to a design by the French architect Marcel Dourgnon, the edifice is one of the largest museums in the region. As of March 2019, the museum is open to the public. In 2020 the museum is due to be superseded by the new Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza.

Our guide Maged gave us the best tour of the citadel and especially the Egyptian Museum. His knowledge was unprecedented. We learned so much about Egypt. Then we enjoyed a relaxing boat ride on the Nile. Afterwards Maged gave us the scoop on haggling at the bazaar. It was a fabulous day.

Great day. Booking was very easy online with instant confirmation. Our guide Mohammad Moussa was very professional and knowledgeable. He was accommodating and attentive. Made all the difference in our Egyptian museum/ citadel/ khan elkhalelli tour. Drew our attention to the highlights at the museum and the facts behind them as there is so much to see. He explained the background and history through the different eras which my son enjoyed a lot. Helped me and my daughter buy custom made silver necklaces with our names in hieroglyphic letters from the khan. Felt very safe at all times.

We booked our tour just the day before without any trouble. Our EMO Tours guide was Essam. We wanted a tour including the Egyptian Museum, the Khan el-Khalili Bazaar and. Felucca ride on the Nile. Essam turned up promptly and was so helpful from the start. Being an Egyptologist his knowledge was outstanding and he went above and beyond to explain so much of the fascinating Egyptian history to us. He also added on for us a tour of Islamic Cairo at no charge as we were located in that proximity when touring the Khan Khalili Bazaar. He also took care of snacks, drinks, an authentic lunch spot and an afternoon Turkish coffee! His knowledge dedication and care for us was very much appreciated and we highly recommend Essam’s professional tour service. We hope to meet with him in Egypt again for our future touring needs.

This tour is a must for anyone who wants to learn about history in Cairo. Our guide was very good and gave us many facts and local iformation about the sites. We were also given lots of information about general life in Eqypt for the people. The buffet lunch was good and lots of choice. Anyone who has experienced the motor traffic in Eqypt will surely understand when I say that our driver was superb and got us safely from one place to the next withi no issues at all. I would recommmend this tour and Emo Tours to all.

This tour offered our family (4 adults, 2 children 3 and 4 years) unique insights into the bustling Cairo. Our guide Suliman gave us all sorts of information about Cairo's main sights and saved us from one or the other pitfall. He has adapted very well to our needs as a family! Suliman's technical and language skills are impressive! We can highly recommend this tour!

We started at 8am in our hotel as agreed. A good start. But soon I felt that our guide was not very motivated (maybe because it was Saturday?). We started at this early hour in the Khan el-Khallili Bazar. Not a good idea. A time when most of the shops are closed. And our guide had the idea that we go alone through the small streets. I insisted on his escort. Now the mood was bad. Later in the day we visited all the other topics, including the Agyptian museum. And at the end we had lunch in front of the Hussein Mosque and after that again a short walk in the basar. Therefore I got at the end my searched impression of the life in the basar. During all this activities our guide was now attentive and with good explanations. As a result I give now 4 instead of the 3 points for the total excursion of 8 hours. This excursion gives you a good overview of the main topics of this loud and interesting city. Hopefully you have a guide who is interested from the beginning.

We first did our pyramid tour day before with a hire guide (5start experience) he explained so much vital inforarion about the Egyptian pyramids and Rulers in the past time.. So visiting the Museum was like eye witnessing the past history. There are so much items in there if you dont have a guide? Than you will miss out on so much vital information regarding the past history. Our guide Mr. Abdul was very informative regarding all the important artifacts and he knew where to take great shot of pictures. CITADEL was awesome!! You can see the entire city of Cairo! Even if your not a muslim, you must visit the MA -mosque, the entire building is made with Egyptian Alabaster stone. Very beautiful building to observe.. again big thanks to Mr.Abdul for his insight and always making us feel 100% secure..

I did the Egyptian Museum Citidel, Khan El Khalili tour. Mo Salah was an EXCELLENT guide! I felt very safe and relaxed as a solo woman traveler. He is honest with the money transactions and I was very surprised that he even got me money back from my purchases and have it back to me. He wouldn't even let me carry my own back pack because he thought it was too heavy for me. He helped keep aggressive vendors away from me. I asked to buy some legit papyrus and essential oils and he took me to reputable establishment so I can make my purchase in confidence. Very detailed and thorough with the information he provides on the tour. After a while it just felt like I was exploring the city with my brother and we made good friends by the end of the day. I highly recommend Mo to anyone, but especially if you're a solo woman traveler. He's excellent!
