Na dovolené v Egyptě jsme podruhé. Minule jsem litoval, že jsem se nepodíval do Caira a do Gízy na pyramidy. Po dnešním výletu s perfektním průvodcem Ayman už vím, žemro byla chyba. Poradil nám vždy na co si dát pozor, odkud si udělat perfektní fotku a jiné. Určitě našeho výletu nelituji, ba právě naopak, jsme nadšení. Člověk nikdy neví, kam v životě ještě zavítá a proto jsem šťastný, že jsme se rozhodli pro tento výlet právě s Aymanem.

Travel is very long and can be exhausting for children and woman. Expect this, the tour was really good. The guide was really friendly and funny, with a good knowledge and exceptional english speaker. He gave us really good hints on which aspects to be careful and how to react in different situations. The tour on the Nile was really nice and relaxing. The organisers also really good! Everything communicated in time on whatsapp, with necessary details, what to take on the trip. The bus drivers also really professional and good skilled. I would recommend definitely this Cairo tour!

Once in a lifetime experience, a bit longer trip with bus but it definetly worths every cent and every drop of sweat. Our guide was Hany and he made the whole thing even better. Definetly would recommend!!

Experience report: Day Trip from Soma Bay to Cairo Transfer and arrival Our booked day trip started with a car transfer from the hotel to Hurghada, charged at €10 per person round trip. From there we continued in an air-conditioned coach with fixed seats. At first we were the only German-speaking guests; later two more people boarded. All announcements on the bus were made exclusively in Russian and – presumably – Polish. Alt-Cairo Outside the Hanging Church we met our guide outside the bus. Due to an ongoing fair, he was not allowed to accompany us in; photography was prohibited. We were able to enter the church briefly, but had hardly any time for our own impressions. Afterwards we were led to another church, which was closed. The bus could not be found at the agreed meeting point. After a phone call, we walked about ten minutes to the next station, a mosque. The stay there was very short at just under ten minutes and was linked to the note that we would have to walk five kilometers if the bus left again without us. Communication with the guide Our guide gave only very brief information about the course and length of stay before each stop. While the Russian-speaking guests received information continuously via loudspeakers, the German-speaking accompaniment remained limited to demand. The guide was personally engaged, friendly and helpful – but there was no structured translation or continuous explanation in German or English. Egyptian Museums The visit to the museum seemed strongly rushed. For the stay, only one hour was planned, during which we were guided through the rooms at high speed. Own explorations were not possible. Optional Nile cruise Afterwards, a 30-45-minute boat trip on the Nile was offered at the price of €10 per person. Since the start and end points were identical and no particular added value was apparent, we dispensed with it. (We had already taken a Nile trip on another trip to Luxor.) Perfume and oil business Typical tourist stop with moderate prices. We decided not to buy anything. Pyramids of Giza For 10 € per person we booked a short camel ride. The guide recommended a tip of 50 EGP for photos. The camel leader took good shots but was unhappy with the 200 EGPs on offer and pushed until we paid another 100 EGPs. Our complaint to the guide was dismissed with a smile and change of subject. In total we stayed at the pyramids for about 30 minutes. Sphinx At the next stop, ten minutes were officially allowed for photos. After a few shots, a staff member asked us to leave the premises immediately (“It’s closed, please leave.”), although other groups still had access. Since the guide remained on the bus, no clarification was possible, and we had to leave the premises quickly. Papyrus shop Last stop at a certified papyrus store, allegedly in connection with the Papyrus Institute. The length of stay was about 30 minutes. Then return to Hurghada. Cost and organizational issues According to TripAdvisor, the transfer from Soma Bay should cost €10 per person. This amount was initially paid in Egyptian pounds, without a receipt. Shortly before the return trip we were surprisingly asked to pay 1,000 EGP again. A comprehensible explanation was missing. The reference to the information on TripAdvisor (“return transfer [...] for an additional €10 per person”) was acknowledged by the guide with a shrug, after which we were allowed to get into the car without further discussion and were returned to the hotel. ---------------- + Positives Personally friendly and well-informed guide The main sights of Cairo were covered in one day - Negatives No German (and little English) information while driving Coach continued partly without clear agreements Very short stays, especially at the museum and the Sphinx Multiple sales stops with noticeable buying pressure Non-transparent additional costs despite prior payment -------------------- Conclusion Despite an endeavoured and expert guide, the excursion suffered from severe time pressure, lack of multilingualism and non-transparent additional costs. Those who value detailed tours, understandable communication and clear pricing should choose a higher-quality provider or consider a private tour.
