The Citadel of Cairo or Citadel of Saladin (Arabic: قلعة صلاح الدين Qalaʿat Salāḥ ad-Dīn) is a medieval Islamic-era fortification in Cairo, Egypt, built by Salah ad-Din (Saladin) and further developed by subsequent Egyptian rulers. It was the seat of government in Egypt and the residence of its rulers for nearly 700 years from the 13th to the 19th centuries. Its location on a promontory of the Mokattam hills near the center of Cairo commands a strategic position overlooking the city and dominating its skyline. At the time of its construction, it was among the most impressive and ambitious military fortification projects of its time. It is now a preserved historic site, including mosques and museums.
The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, known commonly as the Egyptian Museum or Museum of Cairo, in Cairo, Egypt, is home to an extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities. It has 120,000 items, with a representative amount on display, the remainder in storerooms. Built in 1901 by the Italian construction company Garozzo-Zaffarani to a design by the French architect Marcel Dourgnon, the edifice is one of the largest museums in the region. As of March 2019, the museum is open to the public. In 2020 the museum is due to be superseded by the new Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza.

We first went to Citadel of Salah el Din to look at the Cairo skyline and see this magnificent structure.There are over 120,000 items in the museum dating from prehistoric times to Greco Roman periods. The Gold Mask of Tutankhamen is here as well you can go into the Mummy Room.

We were picked up from hotel by our guide and driver from Emo Tours. Driver was polite and drove the van smoothly in not easy traffic Our guide Dina was very knowledgeable! She knows different periods of Egyptian history very well and could answer many questions we asked. Very thankful we had her for the tour ! Highly recommend this tour to all visitors of Cairo.

The guide was basic and is fine to escort you from A to B. If you want to learn about the context/history of Cario and the associated sites on the tour, this will fall flat.

No recomendaría esta experiencia ya que era un tour privado y nuestro guía Marwa se esmeró en realizar acciones que al final del día nos dieron a entender que estaba buscando todas las formas posibles de ganar comisiones por todos lados; (es importante mencionar que contratamos el tour con todas las entradas incluidas para no tener que lidiar con esos problemas cuando llegaramos) Primero comenzamos en el museo del Cairo, donde al llegar Marwa insistió en que teníamos que pagar los tickets (mismos que ya mencioné debían estar ya incluidos) porque a ella no le aceptarían efectivo ese día en la taquilla; por lo que tuvimos que pasar nuestra tarjeta y ella nos dió el efectivo en Libras Egipcias mismo que no habíamos solicitado (ganancia por paridad cambiaria para ella) Todo el tiempo está preocupada por que la escucháramos como en una clase de la escuela y nos daba la impresión de que se estresaba si nos tomábamos fotografías y demorábamos por lo que nunca estuvimos cómodos y libres explorando a nuestra manera También en La Ciudadela nos dijo que ese día no aceptaban efectivo por lo que tendríamos nuevamente que pagar con la tarjeta unas entradas que ya habíamos solicitado con la compra del tour … y nuevamente nos dió el “equivalente” en Dirhams sin solicitarlos (ganancia por paridad cambiaria) También en el mercado nos pidió que todo lo que compráramos fuera por medio de ella y nos llevó únicamente a las tiendas de sus conocidos (la visita que duró muy poco y fue muy apresurada) ya que no abarcamos ni el 10% del mercado y confiados compramos recuerdos que después otro día que tuvimos oportunidad de volver al mercado nos dimos cuenta los habíamos comprado mucho más caros de lo normal y de ver lo mucho que no habíamos conocido No nos llevó a las iglesias porque ella terminó puntualmente el tour Creo que fue una mala experiencia porque nos dimos cuenta cómo quiso sacar ventaja de todo, explicaba cómo una cátedra y no nos dejaba ser libres para disfrutar y tomar fotos cómodamente

Se potessi mettere zero stelle lo farei. Guida terribile che parlava a malapena l’italiano, era incomprensibile. Sembrava farci un favore a stare lì e ha fatto durare il tour pochissimo, non ci ha spiegato praticamente nulla. L’autista veramente un pazzo, non so quante volte abbiamo rischiato di farci prendere o di prendere qualcuno. Ancora peggio, abbiamo chiesto quantomeno un rimborso parziale e Viator se ne è lavato le mani lasciando tutto all’agenzia che aveva organizzato il tutto. Agenzia che oltretutto ci ha “concesso” un rimborso di 15$, e noi ne avevamo spesi 170€. Allucinante!!

What a cool experience. We were in Egypt and did the pyramids the day before and then the museums. We switched out the souks for the new national civilization museum. This is the newest museum with the find of the latest artifacts. Lots you see that you are unable to photograph. So if you’re into mummy’s this is the museum to go to. Our guide was a lovely, smart and articulate archaeology students in Cairo. She’s very knowledgeable, a lot of history, and you learn a lot about everything. I would highly recommend this tour!

Marwa was one of the best tour guides I've ever had. She is super knowledgable about Egyptian history, very kind and very patient. She was super flexible in how we wanted the day to run and provided excellent suggestions to make the experience even more enjoyable. We had so much fun with Marwa we didn't want the day to end. The museum was beautiful and had actual mummies! The history of the mosques is so rich. This is a great tour to learn about Egypt and even better with Marwa as your guide 😊
