Amazing experience, best tour guide we could have asked for!

Mohsen was our tour guide for the day as we visited the West Bank to see the Valley of Kings & Queens and Hatshepsut temple. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide, he was welcoming and friendly from the offset. He has extensive amounts of knowledge about each location we visited and also ones we passed by and was able to answer any questions we had. He also allowed us some time to explore alone which was nice and he also makes a great photographer and knows the best shots to take! Would highly recommend and can’t thank him enough for the great experience he provided for us.

Tagestour in Luxor mit Markus

Wir hatten einen wirklich schönen und interessanten Tag mit unserem Guide Markus in Luxor. Er war sehr nett und konnte all unsere Fragen beantworten. Kann ich nur weiter empfehlen.

Amazing tour

Moss was the best part of the tour, he explained everything we saw very well and gave us the perfect amount of time to see everything we wanted.

The Tour you don't wanna miss

The most welcome private guide in Luxor you can book. We were greeted by Mohsen in the morning of our choosen booked tour trip to the West Bank of the river Nile. We were little bit late to depart due to the crazy traffic around Christmas and New Year, but we are on a holiday so that's not an issue attol:) From the moment we sit at the car ( small van as we were family of 5) the history of ancient Egypt began. Mohsen was guiding us through all the history of the tombs, statues and answering all our questions during our day. We have decided that don't want to stop for lunch, but went to see the Alabaster factory and some other sightseeing magnificent history places. My favourite was "Mortuary Temple of Ramses III at Medinet Habu in Luxor". Let's not forget the amazing family pictures he took for us. Thank you for the unforgettable experience.

Underwhelming

It is crucial to have an experienced guide who speaks English fluently and knows the history in depth. Our guide's heart was in the right place, and he gave us the history in broad strokes, but we had wanted more than that for this tour in particular. I would skip Valley of the Queens since Nefartari is closed, and more time at Deir al-Medina would have been nice.

Be prepared for lots of time on your own!

Generally, ok tour. He customized it to my needs, which meant leaving out a destinations due to mobility. I wish they mentioned that Deir El Medina was not easy to get in as the guide said to me. I also wished the guide came into Hapshethup with me to explain what was what beyond the quick info he gave at the entrance before sending me off on my own. Other tour guides I overheard throughout talked about a baby on the wall, names along the door frame, and other things I might have wanted to learn about with my guide. He said he didn't like this place because it's renovated and not original. While true, I still wanted to know who were on the images, what story it told, why the number of columns/statues/etc, renovated or not. I don't know anything about Egyptian gods and pharaohs so even that would have been interesting! He said that I can ask anything. Well, if I don't know anything, how can I even begin to ask? He said to take photos and then he'll explain it to me later. I did of the baby and he has never heard about it. I Googled it and read it to him. Apparently, he had explained the soul and spirit to me beforehand but without the baby imagery. Hmm. He left me to explore on my own Medina Habu after a brief info walk around and sent me with the driver to Colossi Memnon without him. Hmm. Ok tour. Ok info. Not worth the money sadly.

Issues during West Bank tour

The tour did not start very smoothly. The driver was 15 minutes late, though the tour guide was on time. Then the tour guide gave us the wrong itinerary. Luckily I anticipated this issue and had a print out of the itinerary. I was firm with the itinerary and the duration of the tour in order to get what I paid for. The tour guide said he mixed up our itinerary with the other groups he had. Our tour guide knows a lot about the historic sites in Luxor. However he was not very proactive in pointing out and explaining things to us. He did not even enter the Temple of Hatshepsut with us. Only after I mentioned several times to him that we paid for the tour in order to hear more about the history of the sites, then he started to provide more info. We also didn’t realise that we need to pay extra to visit the two famous tombs (costing extra 2700 EGP per person) in the Valley of the King. Even though doc from Viator stated that Admission Ticket Included, it only covered the lesser tombs (max of three). Note that this is not the fault of the tour guide. The guide became more attentive at the end and showed us more things. He also said that tipping was very important in his industry. Future visitors beware.

Outstanding

We had a great time with MOSS THE BOSS who gave us the perfect balance of information and history while allowing us time to explore and get all the photos we wanted of these beautiful sights!

Worst agency in the world.

Terrible experience; DO NOT HIRE THIS AGENCY. We had booked for one day and decided to change the date, so we talked to the provider using the Viator app, and they agreed and confirmed. Still, the day before the new date, I sent them a message to remind of the change; no answer. In the morning, the day that was agreed, nobody showed up. I texted them multiple times through the app, but nobody answered. We ended up doing the tour with a new guide, hired through the hotel. Eventually, the guide that was supposed to have come reached me through whatsapp and we agreed to do a new, shorter tour to see some specific sites that we had not visited (with the same exact price, of course). His work was fine, but the conduct of the agency was unacceptable. They haven't contacted me or even answered my messages to this day.

Exceptional.

Khaled was an experienced and brilliant guide with a lot of knowledge about Egypt, the temples, the kings, history and what not. He is also, what other tour guides lack, a great conversationalist. I loved spending the day learning from him. He took his time and he did not rush. I liked how he went out of his way to pay cash at various places when I had none so I could repay him later from an ATM. He also ensured that he dropped me off at Karnak temple which was not in the itinerary and gave me a brief on where to start, what to see, etc. I highly recommend him and this tour.
