Het eerste gebied is West Elbalad, in het centrum van Caïro, waar we elkaar zullen ontmoeten en zullen beginnen met een aantal nationale drankjes. Het gevoel van huisgemaakt eten, bereid zoals Egyptische grootmoeders elke dag kookten, is zo fijn. Het tweede gebied is het iconische van het plaatselijke Caïro, waar je Caïro buiten de gebaande paden kunt verkennen, het echte leven van mensen, tuk-tuks en de lokale markten kunt verkennen. Een broodje taameya zoals typisch Cairenes gebruiken in plaats van falafel en een bord Koshary zijn authentieke ervaringen tussen de lokale bevolking! 6+ stops laten je buikdansen met het Egyptische eten. On our first day in Cairo before the start of our guided tour through Egypt's rich history, cultures and many attractions my wife and I wanted to get to know more about the local culture and what better segue way than an introduction into local cuisine. We booked our tour with Shorouk and Ahmed online (we are based in California) and received a warm welcome email. Great communication from the start. Our meeting point close to the juice shop 'El Sharbatly' in the old city district of Al Balaqsah, Abdeen was a brief Uber ride from our hotel. The tour was excellently organized and took us from 'hole in the wall' type of restaurants, eateries and food carts to neighborhood markets filled with all kinds of vegetable, nuts, herbs and livestock. The selection of dates was truly amazing, all in preparation of Ramadan, the 'Lent' period, which this year ran from February 18 to March 19. Some of the businesses that we visited on our walk have been around for generations. Ahmed turned out to be a resource not only for the local food and grocery scene, but local and regional culture and history - thoroughly enjoyable and informative on many levels. After the consumption of typical Egyptian Lunch, Brunch, Breakfast and Snacks we were treated to a tuktuk ride through the streets of Cairo's oldest district. A day well spent. Shorouk was absolutely amazing and knew so much about the food. The behind the scene we got at some of the restaurants was unforgettable. The food was sooooo delicious. Highly recommend going on an empty stomach cause there is plenty of food to eat. Excellent value and an easy distance for walking.

Es war ein tiefer Einblick in das echte Leben in Kairo. • Support Local: Besonders toll fand ich, dass Ahmed gezielt kleine, lokale Geschäfte und Familienbetriebe unterstützt. Man merkt, dass er hier wirklich etwas bewegen will. • Keine Abzocke: In einer Stadt wie Kairo ist das Gold wert – Ahmed ist absolut ehrlich, transparent und es gibt keinerlei versteckte Verkaufsmaschen. We had a great food tour with Ahmed. He was passionate about teaching the group about Cairo, Egypt and the food. Eat stop was great and exposed us to different aspects of the food scene. We have done food tours in many countries and this ranks among our favorites!

Unser Guide Ahmed war super nett, hatte viele Informationen zum Leben in Kairo und natürlich zum Essen. Zuerst waren wir in einer Saftbar und haben 2 Säfte probiert. Danach waren wir in 3 lokalen Restaurants, in denen wir verschiedene lokale Gerichte gegessen haben, und zum Abschluss gab es noch in einer Bäckerei süßes Gebäck. Tipp: unbedingt mit großem Hunger ankommen, denn es gibt sehr viel zu essen, nicht nur kleine Probiergerichte, und alles war wirklich äußerst lecker. 2 Personen hatten Allergien, sogar darauf hat Ahmed Rücksicht genommen und je nach Gericht eine Alternative organisiert. Die Tour ist auch für Vegetarier geeignet. Wir waren eine kleine Gruppe von 6 Personen und es war sehr lustig, ein rundum gelungener Abend. Die Tour ist uneingeschränkt zu empfehlen, das sollte man unbedingt mitgemacht haben.

I had an absolutely incredible time on this food tour in Cairo. From start to finish, everything exceeded my expectations. The food was delicious and authentic, with a fantastic variety of local dishes that I probably would never have discovered on my own.
