Nile cruise

The experience was great, proper coordination for arrival and departure. The food and amenities in the cruise ship met our expectations. Our guide Magdy was great in explaining about the temple and other attractions and making sure we are comfortable and free to ask questions. Overall, we had a wonderful time with knight tours and would highly recommend it to people planning to take the Nile cruise.

Awesome guide, but cruise ship room was a disaster

I'll start with the two good points of the tour before diving into some of the neagtive experiences. Read to the end to see the full picture so you can decide for yourself if this is a fair rating. I also learned that the tour guide and cruise ship are two separate entities that the tour company (Egypt Knight Tours) simply partners with to provide those portions of the overall tour. Our tour guide was Hani, and he was just awesome. Very knowledgeable - explained everything in a lot of detail, and made sure all our questions were answered. Also very patient and helpful as I relied heavily on him to communicate our issues on the ship with the staff of the cruise ship. Absolutely no reservations about giving him 5 stars. I also interacted via Whatsapp with Nada from Egypt Knight tours and s/he (no idea if it was a guy or gal) - I'll assume a gal for this review. She was quite responsive to my complaints and seems like she tried to get things resolved, but as I said earlier, it seems the cruise ship is a separate entitiy, so I had better luck with Hani explaining to the staff as he was there with us. The last positive (and the only one for the cruise ship), is the staff at the restaurant. They went above and beyond to ensure we had enough choices (as we are vegetarian), and even made some dishes specially for us - nothing extravagent, but things like hummus even though they did not make it for all the customers on a particular day, spicy sauce specially made for us, etc. The main waiter was also quite entertaining as he presented us with various puzzles to solve each day at our table. I give this staff also 5 stars. The reason my overall rating drops to 3 stars is the cruise ship (Semiramis I) issues. First of all, our shower was completely missing the temperature control knob. I mean it was obviously missing, so if they had done even a cursory check of the bathroom before assigning the room to us, they would have known this. Unfortunately, we also did not check when we first entered the room, and only discovered this when we went for the first shower. Needless to say, it was a cold shower experience. When we reported it, they said they would fix it by the time we returned from our excursion, but of course it was not! I reported it again and they sent someone when we went for dinner. When we retured, sure enough the knob was installed, but I decided to test it to see if it works, and it did absolutely nothing! Strike two - don't you do a basic check when you fix something? They came again, and the guy adjusted something outside the room to increase the water temperature, but told us to not use the knob. Strange, but ok. Shower started out warm, but in a couple of minutes, it was back to cold water. Strike three!! Completely unacceptable!! That was not the only issue either. WHen I tried to use the safe, as soon as I closed the door, it locked before I even entered the code!! Stupid me - I should have tested it before I put my laptop in the safe!! Ugh! A guy came and opened the safe with a special key, and Igot my laptop out. He ended up replacing the entire safe, but guess what - this one accepted a code to lock it, but when I entered the code, it made some sound indicating it was opening, but then flashed "Error" and remained locked. Luckily, I had decided to test it this time, so did not have anything inside. I did not even bother trying to get it "fixed" again and just left my valuiables in the room. Plenty of other issues too - AC that barely brought the room to 21.5 degrees and we are used to sleeping in a pretty cool room (around 19 degress), which we never achieved throughout the journey. Sink in the bathroom that did not have any hot water, which they fixed but it was still fairly flaky. The design of the toilet assumes you are like 5 feet tall, because anyone taller has to sit sideways to use it - extremely uncomfortable. Overall, if you decide to go with Egypt Knight Tours, make sure you are not assigned to Semiramis I cruise ship unless you want to take a gamble about getting a functioning room. I give them a 1-star rating. I know this is a long review, but hope it helps people in asking the right questions BEFORE the trip. I slso hope Egypt Knight Tours reads this and never again partners with this cruise ship, or insists that they have fully functioning rooms before partnering with them again!

Things you must know before booking

For those of you considering this tour, here are a few things to note: 1) The condition of the room was significantly more worn than it appears in the photos. 2) There were frequent delays during the guided tour and at departure times. While this may have been due to the peak season, the delays occurred consistently and without any explanation. 3) The Wi-Fi was extremely poor. Although I was informed that only two people could use it in the room at the same time and complied with this rule, the connection remained unreliable except during dinner on Day 3 and Day 4. 4) I understand that tipping is part of the local culture, and I am fully aware that certain services involve tipping. The issue on this tour was not the tipping itself, but the way it was communicated. Rather than being presented as helpful guidance — for example, explaining what amount is generally appropriate for the convenience or service provided — tipping was repeatedly framed as something that must be done. The tone and repetition made it feel compulsory rather than voluntary, which was uncomfortable. I have taken other tours in Egypt where similar tipping expectations were clearly explained in advance, such as stating that a certain service typically requires a tip. In those cases, the explanation was straightforward and respectful, and it never felt pressured or unpleasant. Unfortunately, on this tour, the repeated reminders and the implication that tips were mandatory created an uncomfortable atmosphere and detracted from the overall experience. 5) Upon checkout, the tourists’ bags were collected in the cruise lobby, and I lost the Harry Potter–themed leather luggage tag that I had used for over three years. I understand this may have been my oversight, as I believed the area would be safe. 6) The tour program was quite crowded, and at times it was difficult to hear the guide clearly. However, I still appreciated that he made an effort to explain everything thoroughly, and overall the program was very informative. There were some minor differences from the itinerary, but they were not significant. That said, on both the first and last days, a noticeable amount of time was spent at shopping stops which are not mentioned in the itinerary. 📌 Please keep these points in mind when booking this tour

Nile Cruise

Our family had an amazing experience. Our tour guide, Hani Gaber, was very professional and knowledgeable about local history and customs. He adjusted the schedule as needed to meet our requests. I would highly recommend him for your trip to Egypt.

Perfekter Aufenthalt in Ägypten

Großes Lob an ihn. Würden wir jederzeit wieder so machen.

Highly recommended. The fact that all site entrance tickets are included makes it so much easier. All as advertised, great communication, no unpleasant surprises or stresses.

Nice cruise but with negative sides to consider

The cruise ship was decent, although bit tired. The room was good size and reasonably clean. The food was average but with good variety. The restaurant area was very smelly maybe because of open kitchen and lack of ventilation - we had to change clothes after every meal. Cruising in the Nile gave scenic views. The itinerary covered all main archaeological sites as described. On the negative side, the site visits were a bit rushed and planned on pick time which made it very crowded. Our tour guide (Hani) was informative and kept us updated about the schedule. The tour itself was acceptable; however, the experience was significantly affected by the way tipping was handled. We were informed of a specified daily tipping amount per person for both the drivers and the guide. While this was listed as excluded from the cruise ticket price, it was clearly stated that tipping was not mandatory. When we chose not to pay the suggested tips, the guide reacted very unprofessionally. He asked us multiple times—three times in total—to explain our decision, doing so in front of other travelers, which was uncomfortable and inappropriate. He insisted that tipping was mandatory, directly contradicting the information provided beforehand. At the end of the cruise, the guide did not say goodbye and behaved rudely. You should expect approx 55-60 USD per person for tipping.

Informative and seamlessly well organised

Our guide Hany was extremely knowledgeable about every historical site that we visited. His organisation was seamless. From meeting on the boat to getting on transport to and from sites, entering sites and meet up points , there was never any wait. All 4 days were remarkably well organised. Thank you Hany.

A fantastic and memorable experience touring the Nile

Everything about our trip organised by Egypt Knight Tours was truly excellent and absolutely memorable. Our cabin on the MS Royal Viking was comfortable and beautifully appointed, the food was delicious throughout, and the service was top-notch from start to finish. The itinerary was perfectly planned, and Sam did a stellar job as our guide. His knowledge and enthusiasm made every sightseeing experience special. We had a fantastic time cruising along the Nile and discovering the incredible sites. Thank you for organizing such a wonderful journey. We'll cherish the memories for years to come!
