St. Catherine city has a high spiritual significance as a result of its location near Moses Mountain. St. Catherine's Monastery lies on the Sinai Peninsula, at the mouth of a gorge at the foot of Mount Sinai in St. Catherine's City. The monastery is Orthodox and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This monastery is one of the oldest working Christian monasteries in the world. The monastery was built by order of Emperor Justinian I, enclosing the Chapel of the Burning Bush ordered to be built by St. Helen, the mother of Constantine I, at the site where Moses is supposed to have seen the burning bush; the living bush on the grounds is purportedly the original. It is also referred to as "St. Helen's Chapel". The site is sacred to Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

St. Catherine's Monastery lies on the Sinai Peninsula, at the mouth of a gorge at the foot of Mount Sinai in St. Catherine's City. The monastery is Orthodox and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The monastery was built by order of Emperor Justinian I, enclosing the Chapel of the Burning Bush ordered to be built by St. Helen, the mother of Constantine I, at the site where Moses is supposed to have seen the burning bush; the living bush on the grounds is purportedly the original. It is also referred to as "St. Helen's Chapel". The site is sacred to Judaism, Christianity and Islam. You will be picked up from your hotel at approximately 7.00am (exact details will be confirmed locally) by an A/C van, then head to St. Catherine City on the 230 Kilometers drive of two and half hours. Inside the monastery you will see the Burning Bush, Moses well (where Moses met his wife) & the Transfiguration Church. Then you will take free time if you would like to climb up one of the surrounding mountains to take a panoramic view for the whole monastery.

Then you will drive back to Dahab City (Dahab is one of the beautiful cities in South Sinai, it is far from Sharm about 100 km) to take your lunch at a sea front restaurant and you will have the chance to do some shopping as Dahab is the biggest shopping area in South Sinai, where you will get the chance to purchase different kinds of souvenirs. Finally you will drive back to Sharm el-Sheikh.

St. Catherine's monastery visit

The monastery itself was the most rewarding part and especially the church museum with its display of beautiful and rare artifacts including a page of codex Sinaiticus. The church chamber itself was amazing. Since pictures were not allowed in this space, one can easily recollect your memory by the purchase of a quality volume in the church bookstore which also helps support the monks. In addition, the drive to the monastery is very scenic as well.

Perfect / beautiful and safe

Visit of Saint Catherine from Sharm el Sheikh with 4 children from 1/9/12 and 1) years old. We were worried and yet everything was fantastic. Guide Mohamed Nabil first very cultured / precise / who has a real program in mind explained everything The pleasant and vigilant driver The policeman in the car To keep us safe This visit will have been one of the most beautiful of our lives combining security with discovery Thank you 🙏

Experience of a life time

We went to saint Catherine expecting to just visit a building. But with our tour guid Mohammed it was more then that l, the accurate explanation the stories that comes with it and the peoples working for the church. He took the time show us the historical event , it was incredible. He went above and beyond to get us a special access inside the church. The road with his drivers was the smoothest thing we every had in Egypt. The restaurant he took us was breathtaking we really enjoyed our day it was very beautiful. Thank you so much Mohammed!

Egypt experience

My private day tour was awesome. Nabil was my guide. Nabil is very knowledgeable in the history and had fun facts throughout the day. The lunch we had was delish and the view of the sea was beautiful. I had a great experience and recommend Nabil for any tour. We did a few different locations and they were all worth it. The guys are very helpful and will go above and beyond to make sure people are comfortable and have everything they need on the tours.

Mt. Sinai to Remember

Did a day trip with Mohammed Nabil. He was an absolutely fantastic tour guide. Knowledgeable, professional, and affable. My wife and I felt totally at ease for the entire time he was guiding us through the steps to get to St. Catherine Monastery. Furthermore, he went above and beyond for us afterwards. The icon gift shop was closed the day we went to St. Catherine's. Nabil went back for us and through Whatsapp helped us pick some icons which he then shipped for us. Absolutely wonderful!

Honest, Competent Tour Guide

We did the Mt Sinai sunrise tour, leaving from our hotel right on time. We slept in the van there and then hiked up a few hours to the summit. There are plenty of food/rest stops on the way up and there is really no rush. It's not too difficult if you're in hiking condition. The top is awesome! I suggest googling photos. After hiking back down, we got lucky as Nabil was able to work it out so we could see inside the monastery, which was closed for COVID-19. What a private tour! We had the place to ourselves (besides the residents there). We were then safely driven back to our hotel. Having been nearly scammed by 2 other services - Nabil is a refreshingly honest and competent tour guide I highly recommend.

Nabil was an awesome guide. He took us to St Catherine monastery and gave a very informative tour. He was very accommodating and did everything possible to make our tour enjoyable. After he took us to a local restaurant and got us some of the best seafood we ever had.

Awesome Mt Sinai experience!

This exceeded expectations! We were picked up on time as agreed and had a long drive in the night to St Catherine’s in time to climb Mount Sinai for the New Year sunrise. We had an excellent guide for the hike that made the predawn workout manageable and interesting. The monastery was closed that day, but our guide, Nabil, still managed to get us in and we had private access to the Burning Bush, Moses’ well and the beauty of the monastery from inside the walls. Finally, a trip to a canyon near Dahab to experience the natural wonder and learn a little about the lifestyle of the local Bedouin. Nabil was full of facts and very personable and professional. I would absolutely do this trip again!
