St. Catherine city has a high spiritual significance as a result of its location near Moses Mountain. The monastery was built by order of Emperor Justinian I, enclosing the Chapel of the Burning Bush ordered to be built by St. Helen, the mother of Constantine I, at the site where Moses is supposed to have seen the burning bush; the living bush on the grounds is purportedly the original. It is also referred to as "St. Helen's Chapel". The site is sacred to Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

St. Catherine's Monastery lies on the Sinai Peninsula, at the mouth of a gorge at the foot of Mount Sinai in St. Catherine's City. The monastery is Orthodox and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This monastery is one of the oldest working Christian monasteries in the world. The monastery was built by order of Emperor Justinian I, enclosing the Chapel of the Burning Bush ordered to be built by St. Helen, the mother of Constantine I, at the site where Moses is supposed to have seen the burning bush; the living bush on the grounds is purportedly the original. It is also referred to as "St. Helen's Chapel". The site is sacred to Judaism, Christianity and Islam. You will be picked up from your hotel at approximately 7.00am (exact details will be confirmed locally) by an A/C van, then head to St. Catherine City on the 230 Kilometers drive of two and half hours. Inside the monastery you will see the Burning Bush, Moses well (where Moses met his wife) & the Transfiguration Church. Then you will take free time if you would like to climb up one of the surrounding mountains to take a panoramic view for the whole monastery.

Then you will drive back to Dahab City (Dahab is one of the beautiful cities in South Sinai, it is far from Sharm about 100 km) to take your lunch at a sea front restaurant and you will have the chance to do some shopping as Dahab is the biggest shopping area in South Sinai, where you will get the chance to purchase different kinds of souvenirs. Finally you will drive back to Sharm el-Sheikh.

Great trip, guide and great lunch

We are Indonesian couple taking private day tour in English to St Catherine. It was a very good experience. 1. the car was in good condition & quite new. 2. the driver really can drive comfortably and savely. Picked us on time. 3. Our guide, Mohammed, was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of exicting and quality information. Turned out that he graduated from history/archaeology. 4. Lunch at Dahab was very good, our table was at the seaside, bread was superb. The food was included, but needed to pay for the drinks. 5. Guided tour was absolutely necessary, as there were frequent checkpoints, with many sorts of people asking question, taking notes, and probably asking for tips or whatever.. Our guide handled all the registration and administrations, while we sat nicely in the car overall, it was an excellent experience, and i can recommend Mohammed and Sharm Smile Tour.

Great Sunrise Hike and Tour of St. Catherine’s

Mohammed was great! He picked us up right on time. The trip from Dahab to St. Catherine’s/Mt. Sinai was smooth. The views from the top of the mountain were well worth the overnight hike. And Mohammed gave a great tour of the monastery and surrounding grounds at the end of the hike back down. He also was so sweet to get us some breakfast to refuel and some small gifts because we were celebrating our wedding anniversary.

A must-do visit!

Very well organized tour. The monastery site is magical. Our guide gave us extensive information and keys to even better enjoy our visit. Lunch break in Dahab was fabulous: waterfront restaurant with delicious food. We highly recommend

A must see!

It was great seeing the burning bush, the well of Moses and the church of transfiguration. The history and the spirituality connected to the sites were awesome to actually behold. It was also great seeing the foot of Mt Sinai where Moses climbed up the mountain to receive the ten commandments.

Seamless and educational tour

This was a great tour. Nabil our guide was kind and informative throughout. We learned a lot of history and saw beautiful landscape on the way to the monastery. After the monastery tour, we had a nice lunch in Dahab. Recommend this tour!!

A very safe, knowledgeable, friendly tour that exceeded expectations!

Nabil and Sharm Smile tours were excellent to work with, as they were helpful, knowledgeable, professional and very safe. Our private tour began with being picked up for a private tour from our hotel in a very clean and comfortable minivan, accompanied by a provided security guard. Our Guide Nabil was outstanding. He has extremely knowledgeable about the monastery, but also taught us a lot about the culture and the geography from Sharm to St. Catherine. The site is truly a can’t miss visit that is incredible. On the way back to Sharm we were taken to an amazing restaurant in Dahab the served one of the best meals we had on an excellent trip to Egypt. This day tour was absolutely one of the highlights of our trip. We highly recommend Nabil and Sharm Smile Tour. I would book them again without any hesitation.

A special visit to a particular place

We had a great day with Nabil, who speaks very good English. He knows a multitude of things about the Sharm region, its history, its peoples and their customs. He knows the monastery of Saint Catherine very well and we felt we had a privileged visit. The ride was safe, with a smooth and confident ride from Salah. We warmly recommend this experience!

We were picked up from our hotel on time.

Burning Bush was really a memorable part. Guide Nabeel is amazing with full of knowledge and good conduct. He was very friendly and became a part of family. He showed us each and every thing in the monastery. In fact after reading the reviews about Nabeel I booked this trip through viator. Lunch at Dhahb city was delicious and location of restaurant was excellent. I must recommend to others to book St. Catherine Monastery tour through Viator and especially with Guide Nabeel.
