Had a charming morning/afternoon exploring Alexandria. We went to the Citadel, the Kom el Shoqafa and the Roman amphitheater (since the bibliotheca is closed on Fridays). The tour guide Nihad Hassan was very nice and knowledgeable, told me about history, answered my questions and was accommodating in every way! We also took a boat ride around the citadel. Of course, I would loved to stay at the beach in Alexandria a bit longer to enjoy the marvelous view of the sea, but it’s Ramadan, everyone wants to get done early;)

This is a worthwhile trip, but keep in mind that it is a minimum of 2.5 hours from Cairo, and more likely 3.5 hours of travel on the return due to traffic. You have an opportunity to see some great sites (the library and catacombs are a must see) but some of the sites are only a "drive-by". We had a good tour guide who explained everything but Alexandria deserves multiple days for proper exploration.

Alexandria’s fascinating history is not visible but Mohammed, our guide, brought it to life with his knowledge and genial manner. The new library was a highlight, especially as it is located directly in front of what had been the ancient library.

A nice day trip in Alexandria. Pickup: dot. Guide to Alexandria: top! Tips? Yes, it is. Maybe explore the city on foot a bit more. And... we asked to eat a vegan option but this was not ok!

We liked the tour very much, the drive from Cairo to Alexandria was comfortable & our driver was first class. We were very happy about our tour guide Mohammed, who navigated us incredibly competently through the day and his enthusiasm for history and hieroglyphics was captivating and never boring. The scheduling was a good fit for us and the children.
