Tour molto interessante, vario, stimolante.

Wer Sandboarden will, sollte das vorab klar mitteilen.

FULL DAY Tour of Unexpected Finds!
We took this tour after we decided to stay in Egypt (forgoing another leg of our trip to Jordan - sadly). We saw an entirely different side to what Egypt has to offer! Be prepared for a LONG day, TERRIBLY bumpy roads for parts of your journey, and some cool experiences!
Left from Cairo and drove through the town of El Fayoum. Interesting views along the way. When finally venturing into the Wadi El Rayan area, the roads are HORRIBLY bumpy for about the final 60 minutes to get to the Whale Valley. Not many people venture out here (although they should!) and apparently the government doesn't think it worthy to improve the roads. Just be prepared for slow going and LOTS of bumpiness the final portion.
What will you see? It's amazing! Be prepared for a short video about the area and discoveries and then hiking to see the main finds of the area. Literally able to see ANCIENT fossilized whales and sea creatures that have been uncovered! This is a must for the closet archeologist or paleontologist! Very warm and dusty, so bring your water and sunscreen!
The waterfalls were unexpected (in another somewhat nearby area) and very peaceful and pretty. Some local vendors here if you are interested. Toilets are crude to say the best. Again, bring your own water! Hike around, get some snapshots and view a massive manmade lake that now supports so much agriculture and fishing for the area! Really amazing to find this in the desert!
Our tour also included a stop at a village Tunis. Wish we would have had more time there! This is a small village en route back to Cairo where a Swiss woman Evelyne made her impact by teaching pottery to the locals. There are some wonderful pieces to be found here (a winding, hard to access little village once inside the gates). My daughter was fortunate to do a mini pottery lesson with Abraham (not sure of the name of his shop) and he was an amazing teacher! So patient, encouraging, and clear! We managed to bring her bowl she made home (although still wet - so recommend not going on your final days if you're going to do this!) and hoping to finish it with the local art teacher here!
This was a unique and literally "off the beaten path" excursion which allowed us to see and experience some different things in the area! Only about 5k people visit this area per year! A shame! For whatever reason we do not know, but we got a bit "stuck" getting back through El Fayoum as there were at least 6 or 7 weddings happening that very day! Fun to see, but really backed up the traffic! One way in/out!

Indimenticabile
