Alexandria

We booked a day trip from Cairo to Alexandria. The trip was to include transportation, guide, lunch and entrance fees The driver was fantastic, friendly and got us where we needed to go. The guide, not great. We definitely did not feel we got what we paid for. We have reached out to tour operator with no response on concerns. Here is a breakdown of how the day went: Catacombs, she did a great job of taking us thru and explaining. From there, chaos. No clear cut indication on what was happening. Pillar, brief explanation and then she sat on a bench outside while we walked thru by ourselves. Lunch, seated us at a table and then disappeared without us having any idea if we needed to order or what was happening. Citadel, this was the worst of all! Very brief explanation and then told us to go in by ourselves. Once we went in, a tourist police walked up to us and said since we didn't have a guide he had to walk us thru. We felt we had no choice! Then proceeded to tell us we had to pay him for his service! This was the reason we hired a guide, so as not to be approached, scammed. Terrible experience! When we tried to talk to the tour guide about it, she just said oh and walked to the car. Just ignored us! Next was the library, when we got here once again she told us to go inside and sat on a bench. We wenr to use our tickets to get in only to be told our son could not go in because he was under 16. Why did she not tell us this? What was the point? She told us to go downstairs to look. The museum told us, we had the wrong tickets and could not get in. When we asked her what was going on she called the driver, said nothing to answer our questions and abruptly told us she was leaving. Not a guide, not acceptable. Again, our driver was great. I would most definitely look for a different tour to do!

Excellent Tour of Alexandria

Sharif and Ruann were terrific. Sharif expertly navigated the crazy Cairo and Alexandria traffic. Ruann was a very prepared and eloquent tour guide. I highly recommend this tour!

Great day trip!

A great day trip to Alexandria from Cairo. The pick up from the hotel by Sherif was very easy. Even with issues on the route (road closures because of fog), he made sure we were well taken care of. Mig was a very good guide throughout the city and made our trip enjoyable. Very interesting sites!

Female solo traveler Alexandria

The tour was very fast paced, a lot going on. If you have time you should spend a couple days in Alexandria instead. If you can't, I would recommend buying the car and guide only option. The car was pretty cold, its was the cold time of the year though but not really comfortable. Our tour was structured but we didnt know what was next our how long we'd have there. I wish our guide Mohammed had asked us what we were most interested in or excited about for the tour. He was very friendly though! We went to a souvenir shop but I think most of us were interested in the market area, so more time there would be a good way to customize the tour. It would also be nice if we could do the lecture parts on the way to different sites instead of when we arrive, to save everyone time. For us not everyone booked the same tour option, I had booked the all inclusive tour but I think our guide got confused because I didnt get included in the lunch group and paid for my lunch separatley. I also had to wait for everyone at the end which was a tad stressful because I thought they left without me. Thankfully everyone made it back home safe around 8pm Overall it’s kinda overpriced for what you’re getting, most of the tickets for entry cost $3-$10, and a normal meal here shouldn’t cost over $10. The transit and guide should be paid, but for me I wish I had booked a different tour.

Exeptionally good guide

Exeptionally good guide, smooth drive, no problems with the driver. We have seen all important monuments and sites, we were at a seaside restaurant with quick service and good food. We have seen the great library, what is new, and all old remains from the greek and roman time.
