We were very fortunate to have Ibrahim Allam as our guide again on this holiday.
Ibrahim's English is exceptional and his knowledge is extensive and he wraps the complex history of the Pyramids and the Sphinx with other epochs of Egyptian history so you can get an idea of the dynastic build up of why and for whom they were built.
It was the perfect end of our holiday, tying up the history from the people that built the first pyramid (Pyramid of Djoser) at Saqqara, to the Pharoahs buried in the Valley of the Kings and the surrounding area of Luxor and the final pyramids built in Giza.
The Pyramids themselves are magnificent. It's hard to imagine that they are nearly 5,000 years old.
We walked around Khufu's pyramid which is the largest of the three, marvelling at the structure and wondering how on earth they were built. Ibrahim has some theories that seem plausible. On Khufu's pyramid there is a section that people are allowed to climb on. Apart from this area, climbing of the pyramids is not allowed.
The complex is very large and in honesty needs more than a half day to walk around.
The Sphinx is incredible, but quite a bit has been rebuilt to help stabilise it. But is still an amazing monumental edifice.
We finished our day at a restaurant where the food included salads, baked Aubergines, rice, mixed grills. But drinks were not included in the ticket price.
We highly recommend booking this tour.

Awesome day trip
Thus can be an awesome tour and very eye opening. The information you will you will receive from your guide or found out by yourself will be eye opening. In seeing these treasures first hand boggles the mind. Can ride a camel or in a two wheel cart but be prepared to dish out some tip money.

Pyramid tour
I really enjoyed my tour with Hassam. Being with a local Egyptian tour guide, I rarely got hassled by people selling things which meant I could focus on learning about the pyramids and their history. Hassam is a great story teller and the pace of the tour was perfect for me personally

Day trip to the amazing pyramids
We booked a tour of the pyramids, through 'get my guide'
We were picked on time by our driver,
the driving is on another level, like nothing that can be experienced or compared to in the West. Constant beeping of the horns, weaving in and out of lanes. Quite frankly we had our eyes closed a lot! But ironically they get you from A to B.
We picked up our guide, Osama.
He was charismatic, and extremely knowledgeable and passionate about his country's history.
Luckily we beat the queues, and went straight through security. We didn't really spend any time at all in the main entrance, where there did seem to be a lot of models and information to read. We were just kind of whisked straight through.
It was quite a warm day, and after a while we did ask if we could find some shade to talk. Which Osama was quite understanding about.
He was brilliant at offering to take photos for us. Which was great.
We walked all around the pyramids and down to the sphinx. Then to our surprise he said we were going shopping. This wasn't something we were expecting, or had booked. In fact we were careful not to book a trip which included a shopping trip.
Osama continued to be very chatty and charming and spoke of the perfumery and papyrus shops.
We didn't have a lot of choice in the matter, I had subtlety mentioned about getting back to the hotel as we had meditation to take.
We ended up just going with it.
We went to the essence shop first, which was huge. We were ushered to a room and given a little cup of tea. We were there for about a hour... it felt long! It was a very unplanned but an informative lesson. Did I need to know any of this, no. Do I remember any of this now, no.
We felt the sales pressure and did succumb! Even though this was not part of our budget. Also, when my husband went to pay, there was another small commission charge that he added on. So be careful there.
We then went to a papyrus shop. The prices are ridiculously steep. Starting from a minimum of 300 dollars.
We had a demonstration, and again she was informative.
But we weren't interested in buying anything. We more or less made our excuses, but had to be quite firm in saying we were not interested in buying anything.
It was easy leaving, she then said our driver wouldn't be here, and we would have to wait. But I was quite determined to just wait on the street. Someone had to unlock the door for us.
When Osama and the driver came back, there was definitely a different atmosphere. He certainly wasn't the chatty friendly guide we had been with all day. Obviously there is a back handed commission going on here. We both felt is was a shame to end such an amazing tour for 4 hrs or so in this way. We obviously annoyed him, as we did not buy anything.
These two shopping trips were not what we booked. To be put under this pressure was not nice. If I had my time again, I would make it clear at the beginning of the day of what we had booked, that's what I would recommend to anyone thinking of booking in the future.
