Petra is amazing, journey is arduous.
I did not enjoy the travel, it was long and painful for me as a big person, but seeing the sites definitely made it worth it. I do not regret and so happy that I had to option to do this.

Don't let the time or location put you off
Petra was actually more than expected, ive done many different tours and such as 'mts' its about very little time doing what you paid for and lots of time being hard sold goods for a kickback, this didn't appear on this trip advisor trip, almost 4 hours in petra itself, kept updated and informed along the way, plenty of toilet stops food was excellent too, drinks extra but you don't have to drink, our bus seemed to have a blowout (tyre) very professional, pulled over checked continued to restaurant (not far) while we ate the bus was being repaired, we had to wait maybe 15 minutes after lunch and the bus appeared, how he got it repaired in such a rural area at such speed as it was the inner wheel not external, anyway seemless and didn't affect the day or times in petra, extremely professional. Petra we saw so much more than I expected and had plenty of time with a choice of things to see after the guide has done his bit, don't forget to barter still for that onsite bargain, I may have saved a minimal amout buying elsewhere, but personally I like that I bought it absolutely there, and its literally pennies, i expected to get accosted plenty but apart from the horse riders pestering you continually to ride a horse there was little to no hassle, i did pyramids and valley of the kings last year + others and the pestering was unbearable in the end, but totally different this year. The bus back to ferry was also seamless but when docked in egypt, they knew what busses people should get on (about 100 plus people) we thought homeward bound obviously getting tired now, but 90 minutes in pulled over told 2 cars coming (he spoke no english) just barked 2 cars ? Theres 13 of us? then all the busses turned up, everyone randomly swapped vehicles drove another hour then the same again utter chaos we had 19 minutes till the hotel but then more joined us so doubled the time, the last driver had his phone to his ear and kept shouting what hotel to everyone over and over, doubling back when going past hotels, anyway, don't let that put you off it was frustrating but didn't spoil an otherwise great professional experience and in future my trips will be through trip advisor. Ps Jordan was so friendly had zero issues. So glad I did it ❤️❤️❤️👍🏻🙏

This was even better than...
This was even better than seeing the pyramids. One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. I recommend it wholeheartedly. The guide was brilliant and spoke amazing English.

Negative guides.
Very poor assistance. Little information, negative English-speaking guide, we were left alone while navigating between the two borders. Negative guide in Petra, they were focused on rushing and never waited for us. During the trip to Jordan, too many stops at bazaars, too much time wasted.

Amazing Petra.
The journey by land and sea was a long one but all the worthwhile once you see the great reveal of the treasury after a long winding path down the canyon. Our guide Hashem was friendly and knowledgable, and the buffet lunch was if good quality. All in all, a recommended experience.

I want to go back !
Amazing experience , I vlogged the whole trip from start to finish on my YouTube channel- Allowitbruvchannel , the whole day was an unreal experience, from the moment we crossed the gulf of Aqaba we really felt Middle East vibes and the Jordanian people are very welcoming . The tour guide was a super nice guy , very informative. Your visas and lunch is included so you can’t go wrong :D

Day trip to Petra from Sharm El Sheikh
The visit to Petra is simply amazing. It is well worth the time spent getting there, however there is no escaping the fact that it is very, very long.
Our trip started at 00:45 and ended at about midnight. It was all incredibly efficient though and by and large ran like clockwork. The only delay was when we arrived in Aqaba we were kept on the ferry for about an hour as a customs officer hadn’t turned up. There’s quite a bit of queuing too, you queue to leave Egypt and again to enter Jordan, and then the reverse on the way back. It is mostly queuing outside, it’s still dark (in early Feb) and was quite cold so make sure you have a jacket with you.
The guides were great, and our tour bus catered for three languages. I saw previous reviews where people said that people spoke over the guides when it wasn’t their language but that wasn’t our experience.
Petra itself is a sight to behold, absolutely stunning! The Treasury, jaw dropping! And the site is huge, we could have done with an entire day as you just can’t see it all in the few hours you are there for.
There is a walk of around 45 mins in each direction which is downhill on the way in and therefore uphill on the way out. We are both 65, and quite active, but had no issues at all with the hike. You can take a golf buggy (which I think is $22 cash each, one way. Please check as I’m not too sure, or take a horse).
We felt the lunch at a nearby hotel wasn’t great, but as it came at the end of the visit to Petra and we were about to sit on a coach for several hours, it was better not to over eat!
Some have complained about the toilet stops being at shopping villages to buy souvenirs, but I couldn’t really see any other options. That said, there was absolutely zero hassle where we stopped, the vendors showed respect and left you alone to browse in peace. And no tips required to use the toilet!
Don’t be put off by the journey, it really wasn't too arduous! Petra is an unforgettable experience, the Jordanian people are so friendly and welcoming, it is well, well worth it!
I’m not sure why no one offers a two or three day trip though, if they did, we would have done that instead.
