This single column standing on a rocky hilltop in the middle of Alexandria has nothing to do with the Roman Consul and General Gaius Pompey who was Julius Caesar’s rival in a civil war and was murdered by a Ptolomaic pharaoh in 48 BC when he fled to Alexandria. This legend was started by Crusaders, who thought the 100-foot (30 meter) red Aswan granite pillar marked his burial site. The pillar is instead the a triumphal monument erected around 300 AD for the Roman Emperor

this will be the one of the famous library in Egypt,The Great Library of Alexandria in Alexandria, Egypt, was one of the largest and most significant libraries of the ancient world. The Library was part of a larger research institution called the Mouseion, which was dedicated to the Muses, the nine goddesses of the arts.[10] The idea of a universal library in Alexandria may have been proposed by Demetrius of Phalerum, an exiled Athenian statesman living in Alexandria, to Ptolemy I Soter, who may have established plans for the Library, but the Library itself was probably not built until the reign of his son Ptolemy II Philadelphus. The Library quickly acquired many papyrus scrolls, due largely to the Ptolemaic kings' aggressive and well-funded policies for procuring texts. It is unknown precisely how many such scrolls were housed at any given time, but estimates range from 40,000 to 400,000 at its height. Please note that it is closed on Friday.

Roman amphitheaters are amphitheaters – large, circular or oval open-air venues with raised seating – built by the ancient Romans. We had a great experience in Alexandria. We learned so much with Manal, the tour guide. She's very nice and has a lot of knowledge of the history of Alexandria. We felt safe having Ahmed Ragab as the driver as he is a great driver. We really enjoyed the day especially the boat tour with stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea.

Beautiful Alexandria! Thanks to our wonderful tour guide, Manal, and our awesome driver Nashed, we were able to see the beautiful historic sites of Alexandria for our last tour day. Manal was so pleasant and knowledgeable on the history, the culture, and the sites we visited. To finish of the tour, we enjoyed a delicious traditional Egyptian lunch on the waterfront, an experience we will not forget! Highly recommend! Would love to tour with Manal again!

This was our second day. Asamaa and our very patient driver picked us up at the ungodly hour of 7 am for our 2 1/2 hour drive to Alexandria. This city apparently was historically a juxtaposition of Greek and Egyptian culture. We visited the Catacombs of Kim el Shoqafa, Pompey's Pillar, and Fort Qaitbay. Again, Asamaa was a fountain of knowledge. We had a fabulous lunch on the Mediterranean coast of Alexandria. Later before heading home she and our very patient driver took us on a detour along the coast for photos. As usual we were supplied with abundant snacks and water throughout the day.

Ahmedragab picked us up early, bought us a coffee, gave us snacks, drove through all sorts of crazy traffic, and treated us like family. He’s now our adopted big brother. Highly recommend!
