Esperienza tutto sommato valida

Manage your expectations
Visited with kids aged 2 and 4. Verdict: they had fun, but there’s a lot of room for improvement. Go knowing what this is and what it isn’t.
First of all, this is not some deep, remote desert experience. The tour takes place in a closed-off “reserve” called the Safari. It’s basically a motorway of quads and minibuses going back and forth. Don’t expect anything truly authentic.
Pick-up was about 10 minutes late, which isn’t dramatic, but then we were dropped at the quad centre even though our booking didn’t include quad biking. We waited there for around 20 minutes for no clear reason, before being ushered onto another bus that took us further into the reserve.
On arrival, we went straight to the camel rides. Ethical concerns aside, what was advertised as a 15-minute ride was more like a 5-minute loop right next to the quad track, with engines revving and sand and dust everywhere. It felt pretty pointless. The kids enjoyed it, but even they noticed how short it was.
After that, we were taken to the “Bedouin tent” (which isn’t really a tent, more a concrete structure with cushions outside). We waited another 20 minutes. They demonstrated how bread is made and served black tea (which was actually nice), but the whole thing lasted maybe 5 minutes. Then we were ushered into the so-called Bedouin pharmacy. That part was good fun and interesting, but clearly geared towards selling spices and products.
Then more waiting. At least another 20 mins outside, with fairly persistent attempts to sell drinks. Stargazing was next and, to be fair, that was genuinely good fun and one of the better parts of the evening.
Dinner was fine, nothing special but decent enough, and the highlight of the whole tour was definitely the show. It was high quality and entertaining.
At the end, we waited another 20 minutes for the bus because it had apparently got stuck in a quad traffic jam, which kind of sums up the whole “desert” experience.
Overall: some enjoyable elements (especially the show and stargazing), but far too much waiting around, particularly with small children. It needs to be much more seamless. This isn’t an authentic Bedouin desert experience more like a packaged attraction. If you go in with realistic expectations, you’ll probably enjoy parts of it more than we did.
