Great tour guide, horrible transport and food

The guide To start off, the tour guide and the tour itself was very nice. Our tour guide Nanna was quick, witty and very kind. She showed huge knowledge within her field, and seemed very passionate about her job. Not only was she well informed about the history and the sights, but was also good at giving warnings about things like scams, fair prices, theft etc. There were a few faults about her as well though, like the fact we were told the Nile cruise was optional, but she then went around the bus telling everyone to pay. She did also take us to an alabastor shop, for "the toilet", but this was very obviously a sales scheme (the toilets were nice though). Overall however, we were very pleased with Nanna, who also provided us with both a sugary and salty snack along the tour. She was also a raging feminist, which was only a plus in our book. The transport... The transport was, to put it simply, horrendous. Pick-up was supposed to be at 4 o'clock, however already here, our driver was delayed. When the transport finally did arrive, it was an old, "mini bus", which looked like it had driven through the 5 gates of hell. The driver, seemed to have never used a clutch in his entire life. The ride was janky, and there was next to no leg space, so that was very nice for a 5 hour trip (each way). The airconiditoning did work, to some extent, so that was a plus I suppose. Besides never seeming to have driven a car in his life, he also decided a 45 minute break without warning, at our final rest stop on the way home, was appropriate. That meaning, he left, nobody could find him. 45 min. Horrible. When he finally did come back, there was no apology, and seemingly no remorse. The food.. Well, if you were expecting to indulge in some authentic "local cuisine", think again. The restaurant was a buffet, that seemed to be the go to spot for every single guided tour in the area. The food looked like something out of a 10€ motel. You could take your pick of; fish that smelled sort of like surströmning (if you know, you know), chicken greyer than a Charlie Chaplin movie, or mystery meat swimming in what looked like porta potty liquids. We had a very nutritious meal, consisting of white rice, and a bottle of water. Yummy! All in all, the tour itself was an immaculate experiencing, and even with all the down sides, it will still be remembered fondly. Primarily because of our lovely lovely guide Nanna.

Valley of the Kings including temples

I was lucky enough to have tour guide Ahmed - very knowledgeable and softly spoke good English. Tells you where to go and what to look for, also saves you from the street traders if you need to be!
