Overview

After visiting the Pyramids of Giza, visit the Great Sphinx, by far the largest surviving sphinx. It consists of a human head on the body of a lion. The Sphinx was carved from the remains of a limestone hill that served as a quarry for the Great Pyramid of Cheops. Felucca cruise on the Nile is available for a fee.

What you'll see

Meet your Egyptology tour guide at the museum to begin your day. Visit the state-of-the-art Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), the world's largest archaeological museum with over 100,000 artifacts, or the Ancient Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square. Select your preferred museum during the booking process.

Great private day trip to Cairo – highly recommended, especially with children

We booked the tour directly with Book Tour Egypt and not through GetYourGuide or other booking portals. This made it a bit cheaper. Since we were traveling with two adults and two children (5 and 7 years old), we decided on the completely private option – and that was definitely the right decision. Communication, payment, and organization in advance went smoothly. The pickup time was communicated to us in good time, the transfer to the airport worked well, and our scheduled flight with Air Cairo to Cairo was on time. Immediately after exiting the airport, we were met by our guide, Ashraf. As booked, we had our own guide, driver, and a very modern, new vehicle just for the four of us. First, we went to Giza. Especially in the heat and with two children, the private tour was worth its weight in gold: We were able to determine for ourselves how fast we traveled, where we stayed longer, and what we wanted to see. Ashraf told us a lot about the pyramids and Egyptian history and was very attentive to the children while doing so. In addition, we went on an approximately 30-minute camel ride. Three camels for four people cost us a total of 40 €, including a 5 € tip for photos. A bit expensive for my taste, but of course an experience for the children. Very pleasant: There were no souvenir, perfume, or other sales stops. That was important to us, and our time was actually used for the sights. Lunch was okay, though it was at a typical restaurant where many tourist groups as well as their drivers and guides eat. Not a highlight, but perfectly fine. After that, we went to the Grand Egyptian Museum. Ashraf was really great here. He explained the highlights and, above all, the historical context to us very vividly. We found it especially positive that he managed to make history exciting and understandable for our 5- and 7-year-olds as well. Afterwards, we still had some free time to explore the museum on our own. In the end, we were all pretty exhausted – but after a long and truly impressive day. There was one point of criticism, however: The return transfer from Hurghada Airport to the hotel was somewhat uncoordinated, and in some cases, the seat belts in the vehicle did not work. Especially for families with small children, improvements absolutely need to be made here. Even if there is no mandatory seat belt law in Egypt. Overall, it was still a very successful day trip for us. Especially as a family, we would choose the private option again anytime. A big thank you to Ashraf for the great tour!

Pyramid Trip of a lifetime.

Mr falcon Was absolutely amazing on thir trip from start to finish. Very attentive, interactive and very knowledgeable about the history of Egypt. Really good value for money. We had more than enough time to look around all the areas. He did his best to keep the local vendors away. I would definitely recommend this trip and especially the tour guide Mr Falcon. 7 star experience as promised.

Fantastic experience but be prepared for a very long day!

Overall the Cairo/Giza day trip experience was very good. It would have helped had I had a little more clarity regarding who my actual group was going to be at the outset. Also it has to be said that it’s a very long day indeed and it pays to get some quality sleep before(!) The guide was excellent.
