Long drive to Luxor from Cairo - still worth it

We originally booked a day tour to Luxor from Cairo without flight, but unfortunately, the flights were sold out. The tour company was very accommodating and offered to drive us to Luxor instead—a long 7-hour drive each way. Our driver, an older gentleman, was incredibly kind and courteous, making the long journey much more comfortable for us. Once we arrived in Luxor, the experience started off a bit rough. Our tour guide, Reman, seemed like he might have been having a tough day. While he was knowledgeable about the history and the sites, his attitude came across as grumpy, and he didn’t engage much in the beginning. After about 3.5 hours, he told us the tour was over but offered a Nile lunch cruise for an extra fee. We felt a bit rushed and disappointed at that point. To his credit, when we asked to visit another temple, Roman did extend the tour by another hour and a half. And of course, the sites themselves were absolutely breathtaking—Luxor is rich in history and visually stunning. Overall, while the logistics and sites were fantastic, the guide experience could have been better. Still, we’re grateful for the tour company’s flexibility and our kind driver, who truly made the trip easier.

Amazing Experience

Luxor was amazing (and crazy hot), our driver and flight were on time. The guide took us to all the main sights, from the Temple to the tombs. Although guides are not allowed inside the tombs, we went in and saw the colorful wall hieroglyphs. Also saw the temple.

Amazing day visiting Luxor with our guide Dina

Dina is the best! We chose her based on reviews from other travelers, and she certainly lived up to our expectations. We had an amazing day exploring the wonders of Luxor. Dina is incredibly knowledgeable and easy to get along with. Our transportation was clean and comfortable, and our driver was a kind gentleman. Lunch at the Banana Island restaurant was definitely worth the cost. Many misconceptions we had about traveling to Egypt were cleared up. We found that Egypt is a safe destination for Americans. It's also important to remember that it's culturally common to tip lower-waged workers. Something I wish I knew or did different: Side trips to local shopping spots can take a long time. I wish I shortened these to save more time for exploring Luxor's ancient treasures. Overall we had an amazing day and got to the airport just in time for a comfortable check-in. The flight was ok and we got back to Cairo in time to have some delicious street food at Al Agha which has one of the best shawarma in the city - so I'm told.

Day Trip: Cairo -> Luxor -> Cairo

Hesham was very helpful organizing our flights, car pick up, travel, tour, etc. He’s been doing it for 20+ years so trust him 👍 We left 4am, 6am flight, arrived in Luxor 7am, finished tour around 2pm. We opted to not do any “extra tours” as it was very hot. Remon was a very good guide (also tour guide for 20+ years). Very knowledgeable and accommodating. In particular, since our Cairo return flight was not until 8pm, he took us to a nice hotel where we got a room and went swimming. Overall great day!

The Highlight of My Trip to Egypt!

I was fortunate enough to book this day trip in Luxor - it has been the highlight of my Egypt trip! Maret was my guide and she was beyond fantastic - knowledgeable, beyond friendly, genuine, and an absolute pro! She expertly guided me through the best spots in Luxor - Karnak Temple, Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple, Colossi of Memnon, and Luxor Temple all in 1 day without feeling rushed or like we missed anything. Her knowledge of these sites and Egyptian history is incredible and made these sites really come alive! We also managed a nice lunch and a ride on Nile! A fantastic day! I cannot recommend this tour and Maret enough! She was AMAZING!!
