Valley of the Whales 2025

This a truly entertaining tour. Fullest with history knowledge and wonder. It was my first tour since arriving in Egypt and it has set a very high bar. What an experience Willy made this tour extremely special was our tour leader/guide “Jaguar” not only was he extremely knowledgeable but extremely personable and funny. Jaguar made the tour exceptional, he kept us engaged. I am here celebrating my birthday and he went and got me a cake that said Happy Birthday with a bunch of candles. He ha was extremely nice and he didn’t have to and everyone sang me happy birthday. Thank you Jaguar and Emo tours.

Relaxed tour with enough adrenaline:-)

So I would like to give the trip the full score due to the sympathetic guide Tarek and our nice driver. But unfortunately I want to be fair and I have to mention a few points that were not good. So I had already booked this tour in German over a month ago and also paid a decent price for it! A few days before I was also confirmed everything, but the night before it was "sorry the guide speaks only English!!!" at 9:45pm - I only saw the news in the morning! I really had to overcome myself to give the guide a chance at all. Pickup should be at 7:00am - was a bit later but still ok. Tarek, a young (28), likeable guide picked me up together with our driver. I got to enjoy the tour all alone with them! After a short "pit stop", the ride went without much traffic and with good music. Time flew by as it did. Once in El Fajyum we drove a large part of the route along Lake Qarun and past many olive trees and date palms. In between there was also some information in really good English. Luckily I understood! The landscape reminded me somehow of my Nile cruise. We picked up some food on the way from a falafel stand and ate on our arrival at the desert camp. There I could sandboard :-) so great!!! I wish I'd done it all day long! After that, another driver drove a "Jeep" across high sand dunes and on almost invisible "roads" through the desert. Did really "Fun" :-) A stop for photos of a viewpoint for Magic Lake was unfortunately all I had of this lake. Then to the Valley of Whales - everything great laid out and extensive in the sun (has individual opportunities to take a break in the shade). Museum I did not see any but had apparently closed as we were there on a Friday. Afterwards the driver drove us back to the camp as the waterfall had supposedly closed. At the camp we had lunch with half a chicken with side dishes. There I learned that the waterfall is always open and after a discussion between the guide and the driver we left the camp with our first driver and drove ourselves to the waterfall! Luckily, the journey only took about 10min from the camp but was a bit tricky without a jeep - similar to driving in snow. The visit was worth it for me and now I was satisfied too! Now we went back and at the very end we even looked for hibiscus tea for me and bought it in a supermarket :-) back at the hotel I gladly gave them an extra tip :-) Conclusion: better not on a Friday, because for them it is Sunday and much has closed - the tour itself is really great but you should keep an eye on everything being done (which has open) -Tarek is in my opinion a great guide who has a casual attitude and puts a lot of effort into adapting the tour to the guest -The travel agency seems to have a bad reputation as they seem to not perform the booked language more often (does not know if it is true though) I can recommend the tour to anyone who prefers fun and adventure rather than just dry listening to the professional side and knits according to plan to travel. Tarek speaks very little German but fluent English. If possible, book the guide in English as you will always have the right language.

Tourguide is not the same as tourguide.

The tour was OK in itself. We had booked a German speaking guide. The "guide" also spoke German, but unfortunately had no idea about the booked tour, nor did he have any information about the points we headed for. It was more like we had a second child who had just learned German and wanted to learn more about Germany because he wants to move to Germany next year. Not all booked stops were approached and sandboarding was also possible on request.

Unforgettable Experience

I went in middle of November. The temperature is acceptable but the sunlight are still strong. It takes more than 3 hours to reach Wadi El Rayan National Park where the waterfalls is located. Waterfalls is right in the middle of a desert and tiny. Those fossils clearly tell us it's under ocean once upon a time. The experience is unique and enjoyable.

We were lucky enough to have the best tour guide Mousa and his coolest drivers, gave the whole tour another era and it was so nice to be surrounded with local Egyptian people! I strongly suggest to take this day tour and experience the feel of the saqqara dessert!
