We are experienced travelers and this trip has been phenomenal. It has been everything we were promised, and more we didn’t know we wanted to do until we got here. Sayed Taie, Egyptologist, met us in Aswan, and stayed with us for several days from Aswan through our touring of Luxor. Sayed was an exceptional tour guide. He took excellent care of us, including introducing us to Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sharif Fathy. Recommend doing the sunrise hot air balloon ride over the Valley of the Queens and every other available excursion. Tour the (new) Grand Egyptian Museum. It’s fabulous. Food on the boat wasn’t that good, but we weren’t there for the food.

As the title suggests, this tour covers most of the length of Egypt and takes in its fascinating culture over a broad range of excursions and experiences. This is my experience as a solo traveller. A word to the wise, the tour is pretty intense with some VERY early starts and multiple sights visited on some days. That said, you will leave with a good overview of ancient Egyptian culture, as well as some breathtaking memories and photos. You’ll also leave with a much lighter wallet. More on that later. Bring comfortable shoes, a hand fan and hand sanitizer. ‘La shukran’ (‘No thank you’) will become your new favourite phrase. TOUR GUIDES/SIGHTSEEING Positives: -The tour covers many temples and places of interest giving a broad introduction to a friend Egypt. Some of the locations are truly magical and just being there is enough to be able to enjoy it. -My two tour guides Rania (Cairo) and Mo (Aswan to Luxor) were both friendly and knowledgeable Egyptologists. They were easy to get along with and happily gave advice on Egyptian culture and other places to visit around the country. Alexandria seems to be a favourite spot. Many of the guides know each other and studied together, and it was fun seeing them bump into each other and catch up. Negatives: -There is a chance on this tour to become ancient Egypt exhausted. You visit so many temples and tombs that they can blur in to one and become slightly meaningless. Take each temple at face value. Look for what makes it unique and don’t worry too much about not understanding or missing the history. This tour is an overview of a vast culture, spread over thousands of years. You will never understand or fully appreciate it over 8 days so just enjoy being around antiquity, often during a beautiful sunrise or sunset. -You will be taken to places where the soul purpose of your visit is to try and sell you souvenirs, often at drastically high prices aimed at scamming tourists. This is an unfortunate part of the experience but one that is common when travelling. Don’t be afraid to speak to your guide and tell them that you do not want to visit these shops/craft stores if you are not comfortable with hard selling. ACCOMMODATION Sheraton Cairo Positives: -Nice, clean room with Nile views. -Good breakfast buffet with a wide range of choice. Negatives: The hotel has a casino and is often noisy and very busy. Nile cruise (The Alhambra) Positives: -The staff were pleasant and attentive. Negatives: -Not many English speaking staff, so communication was a little difficult and awkward. -The ship is rundown and needs refurbishment. It was advertised as a 5-star cruise and at best it’s 3. My room was comfortable, but the whole ship needs to be refitted and modernised. Depending on where you cabin is, there is a smell of diesel fumes in the air and sound/vibration from the ship’s movement. -The food onboard was average. The starters and mains varied in taste and quality. The desserts are all pre-made and defrosted and all taste the same. There are no drinks included at meal times, including water. All drinks come at an additional cost other than two bottles of water supplied in your cabin each time your room is serviced. -To call it a four day Nile cruise is not wholly accurate. You actually spend roughly half this time moored in Aswan and Luxor. The time it takes to cover the distance between these two places is only around half a day of actual cruising. -Tipping culture. It is expected you leave a tip at the end of your cruise to be divided among the crew. Depending on the level of service you have received and how many crew there are, this can be a difficult amount to calculate. Some guidance on tipping from the tour operator would have been appreciated as part of the information provided when booking this tour. TRANSPORT Positives: -Transport is organised in private cars or minivans, which are quicker and more comfortable than large coaches. -Airport transfers are handled quickly and efficiently. Negatives: -Tipping culture. As in many other situations, it is expected you tip your driver as well as your guide and whatever other services you use each day that expect a tip, this can drastically increase the costs of this tour. -Driving in Egypt is not for the faint-hearted. They use roads differently to many other countries and you will see a lot of unsafe driving and may experience it from your own drivers. Buckle up and don’t look out the window too much. TRIP SUMMARY Overall I enjoyed this trip. It’s not a relaxing holiday in the sun with a drink in hand. It’s a fast-paced tour with early starts and busy sights. You will leave having seen a large part of the country and having scratched your ancient Egyptian itch. There are two or three additional excursions, (each with an additional cost) and all of these were worthwhile, especially if this is a once in a lifetime trip. The sunrise hot air balloon over the Valley of the Kings was especially beautiful and is a memory I will hold close for the rest of my life. The are two main negatives which I think are important to address. The first being tipping culture. This is obviously not something exclusive to this tour or Egypt. Some more guidance would have been appreciated when booking the tour such as breakdown of the different services that expect tipping and the rough amounts you can expect to give, especially for a solo traveller. Secondly, and unfortunately this can be linked to this tour specifically, are the ‘craft/workshop’ visits to see the authentic way papyrus paper is made, or how alabaster stone is carved etc. Often after visiting a site, you will be taken to a shop under the guise of being shown a traditional technique, when of course the main purpose is to try to sell you something, often for drastically inflated prices. I appreciate this is part of the culture, but these are essentially traps with a huge markup for unsuspecting tourists, and (for me) put a bit of a negative spin on the trip. Just remember, ‘La shukran’ (‘No thank you’).

I could not recommend this tour more highly. From meeting on arrival to leaving everything was perfect. The quality of the accommodation and cruise was five star as promised. The guides were so knowledgeable and helpful. It turned out I was the only person to book for the dates so I had a personal tour. Apparently they can arrange small group and solo tours if requested, great for the anti group tour people. When I got ill on the cruise my guide bought me medicine without request and refused reimbursement. I had arranged to stay for extra nights after the tour was over and the support and services offered by Egypt Unlimited Tours continued. I was able to book a driver for a day on short notice and for much less than the hotel would charge. They arranged a guide and driver to take me to Saqqara as it had been recommended. Do not hesitate to book this tour company and you will have a wonderful time. Solo female travellers will be very happy with the support offered.

A simply wonderful experience! A trip to Egypt organized to perfection, from departure to return. BAOBAB proved to be extremely professional, attentive to every detail, making the vacation worry-free. A special thanks goes to the tour guide AMER MOHAMMED, truly exceptional: very knowledgeable, kind, friendly, helpful, and capable of conveying all his passion for Egyptian history and culture. Thanks to his explanations, the Pyramids, the temples, and all the places visited took on an even more fascinating meaning. I also really appreciated the organization of the transfers, the punctuality, and the ever-present assistance. I absolutely recommend BAOBAB and the tour guide AMER to anyone who wishes to discover Egypt with serenity, competence, and passion. Heartfelt thanks and long live Egypt 🇪🇬 🇪🇬 🇪🇬

Very reliable and punctual. Everything that is promised is delivered. Extremely professional, yet warm and approachable at the same time. And our guide, Abdul, was the icing on the cake: an incredibly knowledgeable Egyptologist, but also caring and funny.

This tour was amazing throughout our entire experience. From the beginning we had a representative meet us before customs and help us through the airport and hotel checkin making everything a breeze. Our tour guide in Cairo (Reem) and our guide through Aswan - Luxor on the Nile cruise (Mo) were both so knowledgeable and friendly the entire time. They made this experience one we will never forget and are both fantastic people to spend this trip with.

This trip exceeded my expectations. Everything was swift and well structured. Airport picks ups and transfers were efficient , and when traveling by car, cars were clean, on time and air coned and water was provided. The guides Sajed and Majid were absolutely fantastic, very kind and friendly. The information that they provided was in great detail. Going with guides made a world of a difference. They know their way around which makes things easier especially in peak heat. But also in explaining what you are looking at and its history. Tickets are bought upfront so generally, you don’t have to stand in long queues to get tickets. The boat cruise food, was really good and the room was good too. My guide and boat crew were amazing, surprised me with cake and a lovely singing and dancing on my birthday. Really enjoyed sailing on the Nile. The activities, from the Nubian village and Abu simbel in Aswan to Luxor and the temples, I enjoyed everything!! Hurghada was beeeaaautifuuul and much needed after the heat in Aswan, then head to Cairo. Very different energy from Luxor, Aswan and Hurghada, but it was awesome. From Giza, Coptic Cairo, the market Sakara, the GEM!! Honestly the best time! Oh the safari desert quad biking and star gazing were epic. Definitely value for money!!!! The guides were even kind enough to take pictures. All hotels used were very good. The food in generally was also really good. My only recommendation is that some details for transfer flights you get on last minute, so planning for extra activities is challenging if you don’t know flight times. But other than that, I’d highly recommend the guides and the tour!!

***Late review*** We travelled the first week of May, and I kept telling myself I would leave a review as we had such an amazing trip but kept forgetting…. We had such a great experience with this tour company and our guides. Viator made it easy to find a local company and from there Egypt Unlimited Tours were outstanding. Their itinerary already had most of the places and sites we wanted to see and when we inquired about adding certain activities, such as a hot air balloon ride, riding the camels while visiting the pyramids or visiting Abu Simbel, they were extremely accommodating and flexible. We were 3 women and having a private tour was incredible, we felt very safe everywhere we went, there was always someone there to meet us (airports, hotels, on the cruise). Our guides, Hamji and Mustapha (unsure if I’m spelling those correctly) were fantastic. Hamji was with us in Cairo and offered so much knowledge and was very excited to give us information and history at the sites and the museum which added so much to the visits and gave us a great foundation for the rest of our trip. He also took us to a papyrus store which was so much fun and had a great selection of art and the owner never made us feel pressured to buy anything. Mustapha was with us throughout the Nile cruise and also was very knowledgeable. One of the friends I was travelling with had a birthday during our trip and he really went out of his way to make it special, arranging a cake and the whole staff sang Happy Birthday. We all felt incredibly touched that they did something like that for her. I would definitely recommend this company and would book with them again in a heartbeat! They made us feel very safe and comfortable and I would recommend all the addons offered; you won’t regret it.
