Spectacular necropolis

Saqqara is Giza without the chaos. Silence, sand and history everywhere. Everything started here: it is the oldest cemetery in Egypt. *The Step Pyramid of Djoser* The first pyramid in history. 4700 years old and it still seems modern. 6 enormous steps that emerge from the desert. It feels strange to see it; it’s like being on another planet. You enter the pyramid and go down. It is dark, narrow, cool. Tunnels and corridors that lead to the blue underground chambers with beautiful tiles. Zero light, only the echo of your feet. The Pyramid of Unas small and a bit ruined compared to the pyramids of Giza. It almost looks like a hill of stones in the desert. Nothing special to look at from the outside. The masterpiece is here. You go down a narrow, dark corridor and boom: you find yourself in the first chambers in history with *inscribed* walls. They are the *Pyramid Texts*. Spells, prayers, formulas to help Pharaoh Unas ascend to the sky. 4400 years ago and they are still there, perfect. Crazy atmosphere: total silence, cool, and only your flashlight illuminating the blue and green hieroglyphs. Small on the outside, infinite on the inside. It is the pyramid that makes you understand why the Egyptians believed in the afterlife. It is one of the most beautiful experiences in Saqqara. My first time entering a pyramid! A unique emotion

Do not miss this part of your Egypt trip

The tour through the Saqqara, Dahshur Memphis sites was just what we were looking for to complete our 6 day Egypt trip. Amira was an excellent guide, not just extremely knowledgeable about the sites and their history, but also kind-hearted and personable. She made my mom and myself feel always comfortable and well taken care of. She knows the sites inside and out, and can point to every hidden nook and cranny with a fascinating story. Abdul the driver was also very kind and attentive. The cat was superbly clean and comfortable. It was a great experience, the driver and the guide were very kind to us, I believe it is very difficult to organize a tour of these places by one person, I will recommend to other Chinese friends
