Excellent guided tour, that gives a great introduction to Alexandria and some of its important historical sites

Personal professional guide and great driver. The guide’s knowledge of history was excellent and always put into context adaptin to our question. Watch out that on Friday the library is shut, mosque extremely busy and the Palace golfcart tour not running so it would better to choose another weekday if you could. However it was hard to fit so many places into a day and we did get to all of them and were given full info on the sites and able to take photos from outside. We would recommend.

Brief visit to main sights, lots of driving!

I hadn't fully appreciated the size of Alexandria and the distance between the sights - prepare for a lot of time in the car! This meant that the tour felt rushed in places, particularly Montazah Palace, but it did give a good overview and my guide Shery provided extra historical information and helped answer any questions. The lunch restaurant overlooking Fort Qaitbey was nice and they catered well for my fish allergy. The main reason for the 3* review is the unnecessary stop at a souvenir shop selling papyrus and perfume. Clearly the tour company is earning commission from sales there and it leads towards an intimidating and pressuring atmosphere, not to mention wasting time that could have spent enjoying longer at some of the sites. This is a tour, not an opportunity to take advantage of tourists! On the way home we also got stopped by the police (some licence issue) and ended up waiting on the side of the road for 45 minutes.

The garbage everywhere is quite the culture shock but the catacombs were incredible

I have to really question the validity of these reviews. We took this tour AND another Ramasside tour in Cairo the next day. BOTH buses had NON-WORKING toilets! Alexandria is a very dirty city. Garbage everywhere. We visited a mosque, instructed to leave our shoes in a cubby with a man at 'check in' and upon leaving the women's section, he wanted MONEY to get my shoes back. This tour has reinforced my dislike of tour guides who think we are just shallow tourists who want to take our photo and run off to the next spot. I was most interested in the Citabdel of Qaibay (castle) and most disappointed that it was only a photo op stop! So much information the tour guide gives is, frankly, not interesting and not anything we're going to remember. Let us enjoy and drink in our surroundings instead of babbling and rushing us. More than once I heard, "that's another ticket." i.e. the tour doesn't include that. I"m glad I got to visit the catacombs but next time: I'll hire a taxi to drop me off.
